Teenage Girl Faces Murder Charges Following Fatal Fentanyl Overdose of Classmates.

A teenage girl who is 17 years old has been accused of causing the deaths of two of her classmates due to a drug overdose, as stated by officials on Thursday.

On Tuesday, a tragic incident occurred at Fayette Ware Comprehensive High School in Somerville, Tennessee, as two teenage girls lost their lives due to a fentanyl overdose. The school district reported that the girls, aged 16 and 17, along with a third teenager who is currently in critical condition, had taken the drug.

The young girl who survived has been accused of two instances of second-degree murder and one count of possessing a controlled substance, as revealed by the District Attorney Mark Davidson.

Just before the graduation ceremony, all three girls, who were juniors at the high school, overdosed.
On Thursday, the school organized a balloon release vigil in the parking lot to pay tribute to the students. Additionally, the school has arranged for counselors and religious leaders from the district to be available to the community for the next week.

“We want to send our thoughts and prayers to the families of the young ladies who lost their lives. A common thread throughout our district is family. This situation has rocked our family,” expressed Versie Hamlett, superintendent of Fayette County Public Schools, in a letter addressed to the community.

Davidson states that it is rare to file murder charges against those connected to overdose deaths.

“I’ve never seen it; not in a situation of this gravity,” he expressed, adding that while his office has prosecuted adults for supplying lethal substances, they have never charged a minor with such an offense.
