Three teenagers from Kentucky have been accused of terroristic threats following their involvement in a TikTok challenge, as reported by the Oldham County Police in a recent news release.

Investigators said that three separate incidents at Oldham County High School on Aug. 14, 15, and 17 were related to the TikTok challenge, which encourages students to record a video of themselves telling a teacher there was a bomb or gun in their backpack as a “joke.”

Two teenagers, both aged 15, were arrested by the police on charges of second-degree terroristic threatening. Additionally, another 15-year-old teenager was charged with third-degree terroristic threatening. Due to their minor status, the police have withheld the release of their names and any further identifying information.

Oldham County Schools issued a cautionary message last week, informing families that students would encounter “severe repercussions” if they engage in the TikTok challenge, as per a report from the Louisville CBS affiliate, WLKY.

Over the past few years, experts have cautioned parents and kids about various TikTok challenges. These challenges have involved situations like chewing gum with pepper spray components, individuals pranking others by kicking in doors, and even instances of car thefts.

Lawmakers, school districts, states, and even the Federal government have responded to the rise of TikTok by implementing bans or restrictions. Montana made headlines in April by becoming the first state to prohibit the use of the app.
